Police are treating a house fire at Woodberry as suspicious after a jerrycan was found inside the charred home.
The Lawson Street Department of Housing residence, which had recently been vacated, caught alight about 11pm Friday.
A witness called triple-0 after they heard breaking glass and saw an orange flicker and smoke coming from the home.
Police said the home was significantly damaged in the blaze.
It is the second house fire to occur in Woodberry in a week, after a Tahlee Avenue home was ignited on February 2.
Investigations into the incident are continuing, and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Information should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Maitland Police on 4934 0200.
