Millers Forest Public School launched Life Education’s Water 4 Life Challenge on Monday, where the students will try to drink only water for two weeks.
The school has removed all other drinks from their lunch orders for the fortnight to remove the temptation.
Hunter Life Education executive officer Sarah Gray said the idea was to introduce small changes to give kids a healthier start to life.
“In Australia 62 per cent of people are obese or overweight and for kids under 12, 22 per cent are obese or overweight,” she said.
“We’re not exactly asking them to change their whole life, but it can make a big difference.”
Ms Gray mentioned improved concentration, healthier teeth and better digestion as some of the benefits of the program.
The students seek sponsors to take part, with funds paying for preventative health programs in the school.
