Local Hunter based organiser Paul Humphreys of H Events says, “we love organising these events in our own back yard”.
“Like many Hunter residents, the ‘Bay’ is a second home for us, and the location for many holidays and weekend,” Humphreys said.
“Bringing visitors to the Bay from all over the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney makes sense to us. We are proud of what our region has to offer.”
The Summer Run is a three-race 10km series featuring three iconic venues in the Hunter.
Events have already been held at Morpeth and Carrington next to Newcastle CBD and Newcastle Harbour and next stop is a course from the waterfront of Dálbor Marina.
Humphreys said race entry numbers were limited in the first year to manage course crowding.
He said after exciting races at Morpeth and Carrington, the Summer Run Bay edition will be an exciting finale to the series.
Awards will be made to runners in the overall and age category prizes under a simple points and attendance system.
Current front runner for the overall prize is up and coming runner Jack Robinson from Cessnock, who came first and third in the respective events.
However elite runner Vlad Shatrov, from Newcastle, took out the Newcastle event and is hoping to be able to make the Bay event.
“If so, Jack will have his work cut out to beat Vlad to the podium,” Humphreys said.
“Vlad has a string of major city titles to his name including an Olympic qualifying time at Berlin Marathon.
“Female runner Mary Yule of Forster is looking good to take out the female overall series prize with a second place at Morpeth and good form running into the Bay event.
“However, if Newcastle winner Cassarndra Llewellyn or Morpeth winner Rachel Turnbull are in good form they could spoil the party for Yule.”
Local runners are also expected to take the opportunity to test themselves over the tough 10km course, which starts and finishes on the waterfront at Dálbor Marina.
Runners will run West to Corelette along the scenic paths of the Foreshore and then though Dálbora again before heading East to Little beach and back.
The atmosphere is expected to be great as runners are cheered on by diners and spectators alike around the waterfront precinct.
Runners can enter the event race day from 7am at DÁlbora Marina. For more information call 4934 8138.
