The southbound bridge will be closed between 8pm and 4.30am on Monday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 20. Motorists will be diverted onto the northbound bridge, which will have one lane operating in each direction.
During work hours, motorists travelling to Sydney or Maitland will be detoured through a traffic light-controlled U-turn bay, about 700 metres east of the southbound bridge.
The biannual works, which RMS will carry out, includes inspecting and testing electrical, mechanical and emergency system components on the bridge as well as oil the counterweight ropes and repair bridge accesses.
The bridge will not be open to marine traffic while the work is carried out.
The footpath will also be closed. Traffic controllers will escort pedestrians across the bridge.
A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place during the night works for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
