York lived the dream bowling his team to victory in the final over of the under-13 grand final against Northern Suburbs at Lorn Park.
Defeat was a hard pill to swallow for the young Norths players who had lost a similarly close grand final against Easts the year before in under-12s, but they accepted it with grace equal to their admirable performance on the field.
Man of the match was Lucas Hickling who finishing with three wickets and was on a hat-trick. He also completed a stumping off York’s final over and had a role in a run-out.
In a great moment of sportsmanship Easts’ twins Oscar and Charlie Walker embraced with grand final rival and Maitland representative teammate Jack Ryan congratulating him on a fine innings which almost delivered Norths victory.
There were similar stories played out at grounds across district as junior cricket came to a grand end.
Raymond Terrace are under-15 premiers after dismissing Karuah for 85 and making 2/86 in reply. Lucas Barry made 48 for Karuah, but the Lions bowlers were on top with Max Farmer taking 4-14, Lachlan Page 3-5 and Tallon Gear 2-10.
The trio backed up with the bat with Gear making 34 not out, Farmer 25 and Page 16 as Raymond Terrace reached their target in 18 overs.
In under-14s it was an all East Maitland affair with Easts Blue claiming the title in a top game at East Maitland Park.
Northern Suburbs Black set a handsome total of 4/141 to claim the under-12 division one title against Eastern Suburbs who made 8/107 in reply.
Northern Suburbs claimed the under-12 division 2 premiership with an eight wicket win against Western Suburbs.
Norths set up the win with an outstanding fielding effort led by Kayden Baker who took 4-1 off three overs and Samuel Holz 2-5 to restrict minor premiers Wests to 9/63.
Jett Saxby with 21 and Hayden Lucas 17 had great days with the bats as Norths made 2/73.
