Say what you like, it’s not your usual Christmas decoration in The Levee.
But that tells the story of this year’s Christmas decorations, which also include a giant surfboard, thongs and cricket bats.
For some, they’re right on the money – true blue in all their tongue-in-cheek glory.
For others, it screams Australia Day and completely misses the Christmas spirit.
The issue was highlighted on the Mercury’s front page on Monday (Decoration divide), where a number of shopkeepers felt council had “dropped the ball” on decorations. It sparked a flood of letters and comments online.
