With the world on royal bump watch, this remains the question du jour.
In England, the Brits are busy placing bets on the top baby names with the general consensus being that the young royals will choose a traditional name for their first born.
An online poll has revealed the top baby names are Alexandra – one of Queen Elizabeth’s middle names; George – there have been six King Georges reigning over England; Charlotte – the name of the wife of King George III and also the middle names of Kate’s sister Pippa; Philip – William’s grandfather is Prince Philip; Elizabeth – the name of the current Queen is also Kate’s middle name; Diana – William’s mother the late Princess; Mary - tipped to be the royal baby’s middle name and inspired by the wife of George V; Edward – the name would honour the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth; Charles – another favourite for a middle name and the name of William’s father; or Victoria – Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom.
Ancestry.com – the world’s largest online family history resource – has revealed that while Elizabeth and John are the most common boys and girls names in both family trees, there are several more unusual choices the young royals could opt for.
For example, if Wills and Kate decide to take baby-name inspiration from their forebears, the royal baby could be born Boniface, Lancelot, Cyrian, Marmaduke or Slyvanus if it is a boy or Eusebia, Honor, Thomasin, Ursula and Hyacinth if it is a girl.
The Mercury is launching a competition today to find out who can predict the first two names of the royal baby.
Royal babies often have long monikers – the Mercury is looking for the correct first and second names.
The winner will receive a special piece of royal baby memorabilia, details of which will be announced following the birth. Your suggestions will be revealed daily on the Mercury’s website.

Entries will remain open until the official announcement of the baby’s name by Buckingham Palace.
