Greta Branxton Colts are through to the Group 21 grand final after launching a stunning comeback to defeat Scone 24-22 at Greta Central Oval on Sunday.
Following a disappointing 31-12 loss to Denman the previous weekend, the Colts were quickly out of the gates against Scone and took an early 12-0 lead, thanks to tries from Mitchell Bird and Joby Patten.
But four Scone tries saw the Colts trail 22-14 with 12 minutes remaining and, with a man in the sin-bin, their grand final hopes looked forlorn.
Winger James Ballangarry gave Greta Branxton hope with an unconverted four-pointer in the 73rd minute before Ben Murray barged over four minutes later to bring scores level.
Patten then converted to seal a dramatic 24-22 win for the Colts that ensured their path through to the grand final on Sunday afternoon.
Colts coach Ron Griffiths said he expected his side to lift in the decider, which will be played at Denman Oval.
“The first 20 minutes we played like I know we can, but we seemed to lose our way during the middle period of the game,” he said.
“The way we performed early on shows what grit and determination can do for you and if we can string together 80 minutes like that next Sunday we’ll be a big chance.”
The Colts’ reserve-grade side will also be in action on Sunday when they meet Singleton in the reserve grade grand final.
