Colin Carroll and Nathan Greaves both don the same Maitland Saints jersey throughout the winter months but this Saturday afternoon their loyalties will be divided.
Carroll will be cheering for the Fremantle Dockers while Greaves will be barracking for the Hawthorn Hawks when the teams meet at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for this year’s AFL grand final.
Carroll, 26, has followed the Dockers progress for the past two seasons after a chance encounter.
“It was the first game of AFL I had ever watched and Fremantle were playing and they won so I started following them,” he said.
“It has worked out all right for me because other people have been waiting 19 years to be in a grand final.”
Greaves, 11, switched allegiances from his father and Saints president Kevin Greave’s beloved Richmond Tigers at the start of 2013 because of the players.
He nominated Luke Hodge as his favourite Hawk and thought Hawthorn would win by a couple of goals after being down by 20 at three-quarter time against Geelong last week.
