The Blacks scored four tries in their 22-7 victory, and coach Bob Tynan said he was happy with his team's performance and intensity.
"It got a bit scrappy when the rain come across, but you can't ask for much more than a bonus-point to start the season," he said.
In Aussies rules, Maitland Saints captain Rob Eddy kicked four goals but it wasn't enough to get his team home, with the Saints falling by 25 points to Wyong Lakes.
The Saints were held across the midfield and struggled to counter Wyong's outside runners, but were not disgraced on the scoreboard losing 17.11 (133) to 14.4 (88).
The Saints division two team staged a come-from-behind four-point win.
Chris Edwards, Corey Kennedy and first-gamer Ryan Lloyd all contributed two goals to the Saints 10.10 (70) to 9.12 (66) victory.
