And now Singleton product Josh Valentine and Maitland’s own Luke Burgess will meet once more, but not in person.
The former Wallabies have been remembered by their junior clubs in the shape of a trophy, which will kick start this weekend.
The Valentine Burgess Cup, mounted with a specially made football featuring logos from either club, Australian Test cap numbers and a boot from both players, will be played for throughout the Newcastle and Hunter Junior Rugby Union season.
Points will be accumulated by each club when they beat one another in any age group, from under 8s through to under 18s.
There will be two main rounds where points will be picked up, beginning this Saturday at Singleton with seven matches set down while the reverse will happen at Maitland in August.
The overall winner for 2014 will be announced at the Maitland round in August.
Club officials are hoping the mothers of each player will be on hand to launch the Valentine Burgess Cup at Singleton on Saturday.
Burgess, who has 37 Test caps next to his name, is currently playing Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels while Valentine, who played six times for Australia, is contracted with French second divisions club Narbonne.
Both players spent time at the ACT Brumbies and NSW Waratahs previously.
