The truck, bearing a load of steel, smashed through a fence and onto the front verandah of a home on the New England Highway near South Street about 9.15am on Monday.
Kevin Rae shares a back fence with the property and said he often hears near-misses.
“I’m surprised more hasn’t happened,” Mr Rae said.
“It was just an explosion, there were no skids marks, no nothing. I can’t believe he hasn’t hit anyone as he’s come through.
"This time of morning, and 4pm in the afternoon, it’s like Pitt Street here.”
The New England Highway has reopened eastbound near South Street, however westbound lanes of the highway remain closed with light vehicles diverting via South, Gillies and Brooks streets.
10.25am: A semi-trailer has crashed into a house at Rutherford.
One of two westbound lanes and all eastbound lanes of the New England Highway have reopened at Rutherford following a truck accident between South Street and Aberglasslyn Road this morning.
However, one westbound lane remains closed and traffic remains heavy.
Motorists are advised to continue to allow extra travel time.
10.15am: Emergency services are on the scene and are treating the truck driver who has been freed from the cab.

Motorists have been warned to avoid the New England Highway, near South Street, at Rutherford after a truck crashed into a home about 9.15am on July 7.
