Mitchell, who has made his name at the club predominantly in defence, moved permanently into the midfield when Wade Beard was injured and became an integral part of the centre mix  being able to shut down key opposition players while still providing plenty of attack himself.

Despite his strong season, Mitchell said he was surprised and humbled to have won the Northumberland Medal.

"I enjoyed the move from defence into the middle, but I base my game on doing what is asked of me and bringing other players into the game," he said.

Notman, who is overseas on holiday and unable to make the presentation night, won the best defender award as well as counting second in the best and fairest count.

The top four included Black Dimond first division best and fairest Jim Taranto and captain Rob Eddy, who was voted Players Player and best forward.

Hugh Matheson won the inaugural Greaves/Bainbridge Medal - the second division best and fairest award - and the second division Players' Player award, while also finishing in the top 10 in the senior best and fairest.

The Greave/Bainbridge Medal was struck in honour of the contribution by club president Kevin Greaves and committee member and team manager Dave Bainbridge in establishing and steering the Maitland Saints senior club.

The Clubman of the Year award was won by second division team manager and part-time player Peter Taylor.
