Caitlin Mudd,19, Rhianna Kilmurray, 23, and Brooke Mack, 18, are one week into their new jobs after they began a 12-month traineeship with council last Monday.
The new employees signed with their registered training provider, MEGT, on Friday and a fourth
person will join their ranks in the coming weeks.
The trainees said they had enjoyed their first week with council.
Ms Kilmurray said she was struck by the positive atmosphere in the council offices.
“I was just looking for experience; I have an interest in administration and accounting,” she said.
“I haven’t come across anyone yet who doesn’t want to be here. Everyone is happy.”
The trainees will combine their on-the-job learning with TAFE study to earn a Certificate III in Business Administration at the end of this year.
They will complete six-month rotations in a combination of two council departments including depot administration, customer service, development assessment and information services.
This is the 14th year that council has run the trainee program.
While he was not on the interview panel this year, acting general manager Chris James said one of the biggest factors in hiring trainees was working out what sort of attitude they would bring to the job.
“It’s who you are and what you bring to the council that’s one of the main things to me – the positive attitude,” he said.
