Last year the club was struggling to run with only a few committee members on the board.
But a public call out for assistance resulted in a full committee plus a group of 17 volunteers.
“We had a fair bit of backbone support from some of the people who have been with the club for a lot of years, so the club would have kept going, but it would have continued to struggle and on a decline,” club secretary Wendy Stephens said.
“We’re really fortunate that we didn’t have to face that situation.”
The previous club president and secretary sent out a letter to the community, including via social media, and a large number of people stepped forward.
“They basically just appealed to everyone and put it in plain terms where the club was at and what was required,” Stephens said.
“It was in the lead up to the AGM and as a result we had a really good turn out.
“Just about all our positions were filled that night.
Stephens, whose son Riley is entering his third year at the club, said the majority of volunteers are parents of players, with some couples looking after particular roles together.
Now the future is bright for the club.
“We can get on top of the many tasks that go on behind the scenes that a lot of people aren’t aware of,” she said.
“This is my first time being involved in the behind-the-scenes parts of this club and I was absolutely astounded at how much work there is.
“Now we can get some of the great ideas that have been floated around put into action.”
The club has a dedicated fundraising co-ordinator and the club plans to organise a Bunnings sausage sizzle in the coming months and also resurrect the club’s popular trivia nights.
