Afternoon Teal is an Ovarian Cancer Australia initiative, as teal is the international colour for the disease.
The event was organised by Hunter Women’s Network after raising over $2000 from the same event in 2015.
The guest speaker will be Carolyn Bear, who lost her daughter to ovarian cancer.
A local woman who will be attending is Carole Wickham, who has had a close experience with ovarian cancer.
Mrs Wickham’s sister Jan Callinan passed away in 2005 after a four-year battle with the disease, and now she wants to help others who are going through it.
Mrs Wickham said the disease needs more publicity as early detection is vital.
Only 43 percent of women with ovarian cancer will be alive five years after diagnosis and 75 percent of women diagnosed are already at an advanced stage.
A major feature of the Afternoon Teal is the raffle, with this year’s major prize being a two hour sunset sail for six people aboard the 46' Beneteau luxury Yacht "Champagne on Ice".
Raffles tickets will be available at the event, but for those who can’t make it, they can be purchased at www.stickytickets.com.au/35067.
