About 30 tonnes of building and demolition waste were dumped near a roundabout in the Hunter Economic Zone on the night of February 20.
Investigators from the Hunter-Central Coast Regional Illegal Dumping squad took samples from the site, and their inquiries led to the 46-year-old man being interviewed over the incident.
The squad’s coordinator, Rob Robertson, said in addition to the fines, the man would be held responsible for the clean-up costs, which would be “considerable”.
Last year, the Hunter-Central Coast RID squad received 1241 reports of illegal dumping in the region.
