You are spot on Jason! Businesses and Clubs should take advantage of the expected three or four thousand new residents moving into central Maitland.
Clubs could offer a number of incentives to welcome new settlers to our city centre clubs and restaurants. All within walking distance.
Maitland Council was very successful in gaining a $11.3 million dollar grant for affordable housing mainly in central Maitland, providing the new buildings were somewhat sympathetic in design with the old buildings.
Such development should be encouraged by the residents.
The residents will see over the next few years more of this development in Maitland with council fulfilling its obligations to provide more affordable housing.
Council just needs to expedite the works. Owners of vacant land in central Maitland may be able to benefit financially if the land is suitable for housing/units.

No good trying to stop this council. It seems apartment-crazy for central Maitland and bugger whoever it impacts on. In my opinion f there is a dollar to be made off the investors, it's open slather.

At least keep the facade, as they do in Sydney and Brisbane. Retain the character and patina of the area. Build behind the facade at least. Knocking down the heritage is something they'll regret.

Thumbs up for Cr Ken Wethered and Cr Henry Meskaukas for voting the way a lot of us would have given the chance…

So why did ask for objections to the plans if they were going to approve anyway?
