Umbrella Foundation Australia chairwoman Linda Harwood led them on a journey through the earthquake ravaged country on Wednesday.
She told them how school children are trying to learn in dilapidated buildings and many families are still living without a permanent roof over their heads.
Then it was time to stop for lunch – a traditional Nepalese main meal and a desert, which was normally served at a wedding. There was also a few familiar extras.
The group, from branches across the Hunter region, eagerly tasted the food and gave it raving reviews.
President Barbara Heckman said the annual ‘3 in 1 day’ was a chance to become immersed in a different culture and learn more about another part of the world.
She said the group had studied Nepal in recent months and had been making comfort dolls, which would be sent there for disadvantaged children.
“We’re so lucky here, and often we forget it,” Mrs Heckman said.
