Have your say about the next Maitland museum
Maitland City Council is seeking the help of locals to have their say on what type of museum experience they want to see developed within the area.
The initiative is part of the Open Museums, Open Minds project which is hoped to revitalise the area as well as the museum experience itself.
Interested participants can select from a variety of museum experiences including: interpretative walks, pop up museums or creative installations, open days for historic buildings, temporary displays, traditional museums or even a series of monuments that can be found at different locations across the city.
Your voice can be heard, starting from this weekend, at the Maitland Aroma Festival.
While having your say you are can also take a well-deserved break and enjoy a family friendly day out.
Maitland City Council is just one of the 81 local stalls that will be on site.
Event goers can select from a range of delicious local produce, wine and cheese from stands such as Doughheads, Fat Meringue and Hunter Bell Cheese.
The day will also include a pop-up library, workshops from TAFE NSW, free painting classes and a kid’s café.
“We would like to talk to locals and visitors about the range of contemporary museum experiences that could be developed across Maitland and get their views on how the community might interact with those experiences,” council’s Manager for Marketing and Communications Rachel MacLucas said.
“Across Maitland there are already open museum style experiences via flagship events such as Steamfest and Peek into the Past at Tocal, through installations such as Look Up, through heritage walks and facilities like Morpeth Courthouse Museum, Maitland City Library and Maitland Gaol, but we also want to see what other options the community are interested in.”
If you cannot make it to the event, but still want your voice to be heard, you can visit maitlandyoursay.com.au to take part in online feedback opportunities.
You can continue to vote for your favourite Museum style until October.
