Maitland’s finest turmeric is set to get up close and personal with some freshly dug Sebago potatoes and cauliflower in the city’s heart on Thursday.
Slow Food Hunter Valley Leader Amorelle Dempster and turmeric grower Liz Griffiths will cook a turmeric curry with potatoes and cauliflower, and serve it with a side of spicy beef.
The dish will be sold between 3pm and 6pm during the Slow Food Earth Markets Maitland, which was known as Maitland Produce Market until earlier this month.
Ms Dempster said the dish was an opportunity to showcase recently harvested turmeric.
“It’ll be nice and bright and show off the lovely colour of the turmeric,” she said.
“It’ll be very visual and we’ll serve it with potato and cauliflower.
What can I buy there?
“We will serve it with a spicy beef fry up of mince meat with some kale and quinoa, and lentils – it will be a healthy mince full of good stuff in it.”
Fourteen farmers, and several backyard farmers, will return to The Levee on Thursday between 2pm and 6pm to sell their fresh produce.
There will be a wide range of seasonal produce on offer including fruit and vegetables, eggs, cheese, honey, chicken, red meat, bread and pastries and flowers.
Meet the producers
A few producers will step out from their stalls to speak to Charlton Christian School students who will visit the market to further their geography studies.
