The Mavericks fought back from an early deficit to get to 6-5, but ultimately ran out of time.
They will now rely on their second chance to get into the grand final.
The Mavericks’ Adam Thomson said lead pitcher Simon Nicholson and catcher Jeff Wilson were among the best for the Maitland side. Thomson also praised the leadership of coach Jason Gould.
They’ll play Toronto next week for a shot at the grand final, with Thomson confident they can go on the big dance.
“We’ve just got to get our heads out of the clouds,” he said.
It’s been a good year for the Mavericks, Thomson said, with their sixth grade team only just missing out on a semi final spot.
