Works are well underway on site with improvements being made to the playing surface, new floodlights, new amenities and a field expansion.
Maitland Saints Chairman Kevin Greaves said the club started in Maitland 10 years ago with only a pool of juniors and has since grown with junior and senior teams playing in a Hunter competition.
He said the sport has gained great momentum across the region and hopes the finished product at Max McMahon Oval will result in more visiting teams coming to the area for competition, especially at a representative level.
Work to widen the oval has resulted in about 4000 cubic metres of fill being dumped on the site bounded by Weblands and Avery streets. The project has received strong financial backing from his club, Maitland City Council and the AFL in general.
