The Maitland youngsters travelled to Castle Hill wondering what was in store for them as they debuted in the elite Sydney competition.
But it was the hosts who were left bedazzled and bedraggled as Stoneman followed up an excellent opening bowling spell by Cameron Wynn and Isaac Abella to wreak havoc on their middle order.
Stoneman proceeded to give North West a lesson in leg-spin bowling, knocking over the stumps to claim his hat-trick after it was set up by some fine catches in the field.

He finished with 5-13 off seven overs and was ably supported by Jordan Murphy who took 2-10 off four overs and Lachy Heit 2- 5 off 3.2 to dismiss the Sydney side for 65 off 28 overs.
Sam Parkinson (15) and Sam Jordan (9) put on 26 in five overs to get the runs ticking with Isaac Barry (20) and Will Stoneman (6 not out) passing the target three wickets down off 14 overs.
Maitland’s under-14s proved they will be competitive at the IDCA level with a narrow four-wicket loss at Penrith.
Maitland posted 6-180, with the stars with the bat Jamie Larsen, who batted all but the first six overs of the innings to remain not out on 45, and Jordan Wells who scored a hard hitting 31 towards the end of the innings.
Lachie Page (29), Max Farmer (21) and Baylee Borrow (20) also made good contributions.
The game was evenly poised throughout Penrith’s run chase. At the second drinks break the home team was 3-108 and needing a further 72 runs.
Some good middle and lower order batting and sharp running saw the home team with eight balls to spare.
Best with the ball were Jay Boyd 2-29, Nic Bourke 1-7, Sam Lynch 1-13 and Lachlan Page 1-25.
Maitland’s under-12s had a great start posting 236 and then dismissing Manly for 204 to record a first-up win.
