McCloy Group and Barr Property and Planning submitted the plans for the 99-unit seniors living development to Maitland Council in November.
With a capital investment value of more than $29 million, approval authority has been handed over to the Hunter and Central Coast Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP).
The extensive work will turn the vacant lot at 62 Grand Parade into a seniors living hub, with development to include building vital infrastructure such as roads, car parking and a sewerage system.

But that’s not the end of it. The proposed works will also have various recreational areas, including a bowling green, a sports pavilion, a swimming pool and a community centre.
The developments will be family friendly, with multi-room apartments on offer. The 99 households will consist of 85 two room units, while 14 will have three rooms.
The McCloy group was contacted for comment on the development, but hadn’t responded by deadline.
The development would add to the spate of aged care and seniors living options undergoing renovation or construction around Maitland. Already this year a seniors housing development at Berry Park proposed by well-known developer Hilton Grugeon has been approved by council, as well as a 15 house development at Largs.
No date has been set yet for the JRRP hearing in 2018 which will rule on whether the proposal can proceed. Written submissions regarding the proposal from members of the public should be lodged with Maitland Council by December 28.
