The machine, located out the front of the Amart Furniture centre on Mustang Drive, started operating on Saturday morning.
The Rutherford installation is the latest addition to Maitland in the NSW Government’s Container Deposit Scheme, which has been criticised for it’s perceived slow roll-out in the Lower Hunter.
There are now reverse vending machines located at the Thornton BP and All Fun Rides at Kurri Kurri, as well as a donation station Service NSW East Maitland.
Most containers between 150ml and three litres are eligible for the 10c refund.
