The Cootamundra BnS Ball on the Easter long weekend has been hailed as another success as 500 people arrived for the event – including the renowned federal senator.
The ex-pollie was accompanied by a film crew from Channel Seven filming for their Sunday Night program.
It’s believed Ms Lambie is helping create a program on the ways people meet each other in regional Australia – such as through BnS Balls.
Traditionally the ball started with a camping night for guests on Friday, however this year the showgrounds only opened on Saturday.
“It was better than expected,” Mr Philpott said.
Mr Philpott said opening the camping the day before was effectively two events.
“We’re happy with the result, it made a tidy profit for the soccer club,” he said.
That profit will be re-directed into O’Connell Park and its facilities which are owned by the Cootamundra Strikers.
“It covers fertilisers, top dressing, rates and general maintenance. It all goes back into O’Connell Park,” Mr Philpott said.
Mr Philpott said the benefits of holding the event also spilled across to businesses in Cootamundra as well.
“We want to thank the community for persevering with us for another year, we know it can be hard for some,” he said.
“It’s a way for us to raise money without calling on our community all the time.”
Cootamundra police officer-in-charge Inspector Frank Brown said he was pleased with the behavior of BnS patrons. Inspector Brown said police weren’t called to any major incidents which was a positive.
“Everyone behaved themselves. There’s no complaints from police about the event.”
