Marcellin Park has never looked greener for opening day

Marcellin Park has never looked greener as the Maitland Blacks host their first game of the 2018 season today.

Marcellin was a sea of black jerseys this morning with juniors in action from under-7s to under-17s.

The under-17s had the honour of being the first Maitland team to play on the new surface on the No.1 ground when they took on Merewether Carlton.

The Blacks poured in more than $30,000 in ground improvements over the summer and a team led by Dan Leadley spent countless hours to ensure it flourished.

There have been huge improvements across all the fields and the Blacks now now playing fields as well a junior programs that are the envy of the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union competition.

The Little Blacks Army is back and the Maitland Mercury caught up with action between teams Lynch and Bower in the under-7s.
