Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Hunter spokesman and Upper Hunter state election candidate John Preston said it was about time the powers that be started listening to the community.
Mr Preston said Hunter Water had been “running around like a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman” trying to talk people into “contracting out of their rights”.
“I don’t understand when Hunter Water got out of the business of supplying essential services,” he said.
Mr Preston said he planned to refer the matter to the NSW Energy and Water Ombudsman on Friday.
“These people have been connected for decades, this is nothing short of a disgrace,” he said.
Hunter Water’s spokeswoman said the water did not meet Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and customers had been offered alternate supply options.
