Ms Aitchison said that congestion at the roundabout, as well as the impromptu rat run through Maitland Park, has created not only a frustrating scenario for motorists, but a dangerous one.
“(Roads, Maritime and Freight Minister Melinda Pavey MP) needs to urgently provide funding to alleviate the traffic congestion problems and to address the dangerous conditions that motorists face on a daily basis at the Maitland Railway Station roundabout,” Ms Aitchison said.
“This just can’t wait. It has been a problem for nearly two years and the Government needs to act immediately to address the safety concerns.”
She said she feared that someone could die as a result of emergency services getting caught in the gridlock.
“I am deeply concerned that there will be a fatality on this stretch of road or someone will die waiting for assistance as the ambulance is stuck in traffic,” she said.
