MCCS support frail, aged and people living with disability to remain living independently in their home and stay involved with their community.
‘We can help people with domestic assistance, meal preparation, personal care, social support, transport to appointments, lawns and gardens and meal delivery through our Meals on Wheels service,” explains Peter Rothnie, General Manager of Maitland Community Care Services.
Volunteers are the backbone of the organisation and without them much of the work that MCCS does in Maitland would not be possible.
Each year compassionate community members volunteer their time, skills and energy to help Maitland Community Care Services to help the people of Maitland.
“Right now we are recruiting for volunteer drivers to transport clients to medical appointments and social outings,” said Mr Rothnie.
Drivers need to be available throughout the week including weekends.
Ideally volunteer drivers would be residents of Maitland LGA, with a strong knowledge of the local area.
“There is no special license or qualification needed, just a C Class drivers licence and clean driving record, and of course a willingness to get involved’ he added.
MCCS volunteers not only give time to support the organisation and clients, they are heavily involved in fundraising and helping to organise various events throughout the year.
To date, significant funds have been raised, and the group’s recent activities have enabled Maitland Community Care Services to purchase a refrigerated meal delivery truck which will service the Maitland community.
