Emergency services were called out to General Electric Power Services on Junction Street about 8.30pm where crews found a well advanced fire in an administration building.
Crews from Rutherford, Maitland and East Maitland Fire and Rescue as well as six firefighters from Rural Fire Service were called upon to battle the blaze.
Fire and Rescue NSW Duty Commander Paul Collis said firefighters mounted a “pretty aggressive attack in hazardous conditions”.
“The building was lined with plywood so there was very high heat,” he said.
The fire was extinguished in about an hour and a half.
“They managed to contain the damage to just half of the building,” Mr Collis said. “They did an exceptional job.”
The cause of the fire is unknown. Police are investigating with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW.
