A Largs man has lost $200 to a Gumtree scammer who falsely advertised a Suburu for sale on the buying and selling website.

The 26-year-old man contacted the fake seller about the advertised vehicle on May 20.
The seller asked for a $200 deposit on the vehicle, which the Largs man paid.
But after the money was transferred the seller ceased all contact.
In response to the incident police have urged people to be vigilant when making purchases online.
Gumtree advises buyers to ask lots of questions when making purchases and to meet the seller in person for personal ease and safety.
