The challenge is a fundraiser for suicide prevention and being undertaken by Anytime Fitness nationally.
“Last year we raised $300,000 and this year we’ve already passed the $200,000 mark,” gym manager Eliza Faustini said.
The aim of the challenge is to keep a treadmill running for 24-hours, with participants booking up a time – essentially a treadmill tag team.
“You can run, walk, dance, do what you like as long as the treadmill keeps turning,” Eliza explained. “You can book a minimum 15-minute window, but you can book for longer if you like … you don’t have to stop at 15 minutes.”
And the caffeine?
“Well, the staff have to be here right through the night. So if someone doesn’t turn up or we have an empty slot or two at 3am … well, then it’s our job to step in to keep it turning.”
Anyone keen for some exercise should contact the club or see their Facebook page.
