Mark Hughes, founder of the Mark Hughes Foundation, has been touring schools in the area to create awareness of brain cancer and its impact on patients and their families.
On Tuesday, Mr Hughes made a special visit to his former school St Peter’s to speak with students.
Pupils and staff members were encouraged to wear beanies and make a gold coin donation.
Teacher Rebecca Cornwall said it was an important thing to do to support the community.
“A lot of people have been affected by brain cancer,” she said.
“Mark Hughes has been to our school on several occasions to show his support for what we’re doing.”
The school’s Student Representative Council helped organise a Beanie for Brain Cancer event on site.
Mark Hughes said he was always grateful for the “amazing support” of the Hunter Valley.
