The Rutherford shelter’s winter adoption program ran over Saturday and Sunday and saw eight dogs and 15 cats re-homed as of Sunday afternoon.
Senior manager of Hunter Animal Care Services, Debbie Jaggers, said it was heartening to see so many older animals adopted out.
“It’s lovely. We get great support from the community but a lot of the time people are after kittens and puppies, so to re-home some older pets has been great,” she said.
