Maitland under-17 netball team falls short of top 10 target

A disappointing day one and two narrow losses on the final day of competition left Maitland’s under-17 netball representative team short of reaching their target of a top-10 finish at the NSW netball championships on the long weekend.

Maitland finished 14th overall with six wins and a draw from their 19 games in under-17 division 2.

They pushed hard to the end with a 25-11 win against Coffs Harbour and a 24-10 victory over Hawkesbury City on day three.

However, one and two goal losses to Griffith and Queanbeyan respectively prevented them from finishing higher.

Kurri Kurri finished 15th in division three winning six games along the way.

Kurri (two wins and a draw) claimed bragging rights in the open championships finishing in 15th just above Maitland (one win and a draw) in 16th on the tournament ladder.

The two teams had a 13-all draw when they met on the final day.
