St Mary’s led by a hat-trick of tries to Liam Dalibozek defeated Matraville Sports High School 34-16, the same scoreline of their opening round win against St Greg’s Campbelltown.
“Liam had a fantastic game, he has so much speed and took his opportunities. He normally plays on the wing but filled in at fullback as well on Wednesday” sports co-ordinator Col Love said.
Front-rower Harry Whitfield, centre Caleb Claydon-Nicholls and NSW under-18s captain Jock Madden were among the best for the Maitland side, which had strong contributions across the park.
“It was a toss up between Caleb and Harry for man of the match and Jock at halfback led the boys around the field incredibly well,” Love said.
After two matches on the road, the St Mary’s boys are at home against Illawarra Sports High at the Maitland Sportsground in their final pool game on August 1.
Love said victory against Illawarra would guarantee St Mary’s a spot in the round of 16 in the competition, which will then feature Queensland teams.
“The top teams from each pool advance as well as a couple of the best placed second teams,” he said.
“We are placed well to advance and it would be great to get a good crowd along to watch the game.”
