Comerford battled injury at the start of the season, but with Ryan Clarke ran the Charlestown defence ragged with their pace.
Clarke chipped in with a goal and Blues defender Scott Smith scored an own goal.
Speaking after the match Comerford said it was great to be able to get on the scoreboard and be able to run out a match.
He said he and Clarke had benefitted from having Sean Pratt up front.
“He has a big body and competes well up front, it enables Clarkey and myself to run off him,” he said.
Comerford said it was an important win for the Magpies after their loss to the Weston Bears.
“They (Charlestown) had a mid-week game and we knew we were a chance of exploiting that at the end,” he said.
Maitland could have scored at least six apart from the efforts of the Charlestown keeper Danny Ireland who pulled off several top saves and kept a Magpies penalty out.
Magpies keeper Matt Trott also kept out a penalty shot which was awarded after Comerford drew a yellow card for a late challenge in the box.
Maitland jump to fourth on the ladder leapfrogging Charlestown and are just a point behind Lambton Jaffas who had a 1-all draw with Broadmeadow Magic.
