The single digit overnight temperatures and rain is forecast to continue until Friday but return early next week.
Twenty millimetres is forecast to have fallen across Maitland in the 24-hours to midnight Tuesday. Ten millimetres had fallen overnight Monday to 9am Tuesday. Showers will continue Wednesday and Thursday, five millimetres tipped both days.
Weatherzone Meteorologist Craig McIntosh said heavier falls and storms were forecast to hit Newcastle and Port Stephens. He said temperatures will remain in the mid to high teens until Tuesday with overnight temperatures dipping to five degrees Friday, Saturday and four degrees Sunday with the chance of frost.
“Temperatures have been limited because of thick cloud and a cold air mass coupled with south westerly winds and rain,” Mr McIntosh said. “Maitland is more than three percent below its June day time average temp.”
