Ultimate Art, owned by Formosa’s wife, Kirsty, claimed the 2300-metre feature at Menangle Park under the training of Shane Sanderson and drive of Cameron Hart, who secured his first win at group level.
The eight-year-old entire cruised to a five-metre win in a cracking mile rate of 1:54.7 for his 38th victory in 109 starts. The $15,000 prize took the group 1 winner past $600,000 in career stakes.
At Newcastle, Somemondosomewhere backed up his career-best winning time with another dominant performance.
With Formosa and his family on holiday in Malta, Breanna Lindsay is overseeing operations at the Ellalong stables and she was also in the gig to steer Somemondosomewhere to the 2030-metre win.
It followed a mile victory in an impressive 1:54.5 at Newcastle two weeks earlier from the five-year-old gelding.
Formosa said Ultimate Art would continue racing in Sydney, while Somemondosomewhere would stay competing at Newcastle until he returned in early August, when he hoped to give it a crack at Menangle company.
At Melton, Pete’s Big Jim, formerly trained at Sawyers Gully by Stacie Elliott, was third in the group 1 Vicbred Super Series final for two-year-old colts and geldings.
Former Keinbah-based training team Shane and Lauren Tritton now have Pete’s Big Jim in their Menangle stables.
