In fact so obsessed is John Buck with his home town, that he has started to document its evolving face in some unique and wonderful ways.
"We’re so lucky to live in the heart of the valley, just a short drive to the coast or the Upper Hunter and there’s an abundance of awesome locations," Mr Buck said.
He has purchased state of the art equipment to capture Maitland and the Hunter Valley at their best through the lenses of a GoPro camera and a drone.
He has obtained access to some of the region's most opulent residences and private properties to give us an insight into locations many locals would probably never see in their lifetime.
His images and videos are posted on social media and have proved to be overwhelming success stories, some scoring tens of thousands of views.
"I've been lucky enough to gain access to the likes of Mansfield House in High Street, Maitland and Tocal House, shooting short videos at both locations,” Mr Buck said.
“But by far my most popular video was of Morpeth legend and broom maker John Wright – it has had almost 40,000 views.
“I use a mix of equipment including regular cameras, GoPros and drones to give people a different perspective of the things they see everyday and will shoot anything, anywhere,” Mr Buck said.
He has shared some of his images with several print media outlets and NBN Television. He also covers events like A Day on the Green and a variety of sports.
Mr Buck has formed Smart Artist Promotions, the child of Maitland Comedy Club which was formed in 2013 and went on to organise and host almost 70 comedy nights from Muswellbrook to Newcastle.
“Photography, like stand-up comedy was one of those things on my to do list and as an almost empty nester and shift worker, I’ve now got the time to pursue the passion and it’s never been easier with the technology and range of equipment available,” he said.
“Maitland Comedy Club is a little quiet of late, supporting the occasional community event as an MC and auctioneer.”
