But here they will no longer be teammates when they go head-to-head at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre as both of these world-class bull riders want to be number one at the end of 2018.
At present Richardson is ranked number three while Heffernan lays claim to the fourth spot on the current PBR Australian Standings.
Richardson heads into the event in top-form having taken out the Last Cowboy Standing IV title in Brisbane last month.
“I’ve had some great results these last two months, and I’m feeling really strong at the moment. It would be the cherry on the cake to win the Newcastle Invitational in front of my family, friends and a hometown crowd – it’s definitely something I’m gunning for,” he says.
Heffernan is also aiming for a win on local soil to help boost his ranking.
“It’s hard for my family to travel a lot to see me compete when they’re busy and working, but having an event so close to home means they can come and see me ride. It gives me a real boost to have their support, and makes Newcastle one of my favourite tour stops every year,” he says.
