Two girls, aged 14 and 16, have been charged after a man’s car was allegedly stolen and later set on fire after he temporarily got out at a petrol station.

Police said the man, aged 18, had been driving both girls around the Hunter area in the early hours of Friday morning when he hopped out of the 2003 SAAB sedan at the United Service Station, East Maitland.
Police will allege the girls then drove off from the service station, leaving the man behind.
The man’s vehicle was later found with severe internal fire damage at Adelaide Street, East Maitland, according to police.
The two teenage girls, both from the Lower Hunter area, have been charged with taking a conveyance without consent of the owner and destroying property by fire.
The girls were both granted conditional bail and are due to face a Hunter children’s court this month.
Meanwhile, several other cars were also reported stolen from around Maitland last weekend.
A business premises at Kyle Street, Rutherford were broken into sometime between 4.50pm Saturday and 10.30am Sunday and a red Holden Commodore ute was taken.
The ute was later recovered fully intact at Wakefield in Lake Macquarie.
A white Holden Commodore sedan was also thieved from Corey Street at Martins Creek sometime between 10pm Satruday and 9am Sunday.
Maitland police are appealing for any information about both car theft incidents.
