The trick to beating them is to play them in the pre-season. The Ants have lost all four trial games they have played.

“It doesn’t make sense, but we haven’t won a single trial game,” Ants half-back and former Sydney Swans Academy member Jess Cassidy said after her side’s 38-0 win against Dora Creek.

Cassidy, who played fullback in the team’s 2017 premiership, was forced to switch to halfback when Ashlee Harvey ruptured her ACL in their opening game of the season in which they overcame arch rivals University of Newcastle 18-16

Harvey had been selected to play in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League representative side and her loss threatened the Ants domination of the competition.

Cassidy said they survived a real scare the next week just beating Dora Creek by two points.

After an 18-8 win the following week against Fingal Bay it was situation normal and the Ants have met every challenge beating Uni 18-4 last round to lead the competition by two games.

“We really missed Ashlee, but she has been fantastic as soon as she was able to she was helping out on the sidelines,” Cassidy said.

“We love playing together, we get on really well and we just keep winning.

“The win against Uni was great. I think we have a mental edge over them. They are normally so composed but when they come up against us they seem to struggle.”

The eight try, 38-0 win against Dora Creek included hat-tricks to Cassidy and wing Alyssa Shoulders. Shoulders’ sister Caitlin also crossed for a try and centre Jordyn Barsley got the other four-pointer
