Council’s Manager Works Ashley Kavanagh said council has been working with the Office of Environment and Heritage to install appropriate fencing across the floodway and ensure it also prevents unauthorised vehicle access to the ground.
“Council also worked with Maitland Hospital during the process as the unapproved access across council land to the car park on hospital land was also removed,” he said.
Council understands the hospital will still use the car park and full access to it can still be gained through the hospital site as usual.
Maitland Cricket Association spokesperson Mark Warland said the association welcomes the fencing which will make the ground safer for both junior and senior players during the upcoming cricket season.
