Logan required treatment and was close to be replaced before scoring a last-minute try to secure the Blacks a place in the grand final.

“I had a cortisone injection in it a fortnight ago and had been taking painkillers,” Logan said. “The foot goes dead like when you get a cork in the leg. You can’t run for a bit, then it comes good. Surgery is an option. Where the first and second metatarsal meet, they can fuse it together. You lose some mobility in your foot but it can never happen again. I might just have a good rest. It can heal itself if you do the right rehab.”

John Birrell returns on the side of the scrum after missing the preliminary final with concussion. 

* Jarryd Logan has been given the nod to control his fifth first grade grand final after beating off a strong challenge from Brendon Farrar.

A former NSW Country referee of the year, Logan was sideline with a knee injury for last season’s decider. He had officiated four straight from 2013.

* The Anderson Medal will presented at the Hawthorne Club luncheon at Surf House on Friday.

*  Hunter duo Ben Wood (Maitland) and Jack Allen (Hamilton) have been selected in the NSW Country Eagles under-19s to contest the National Rugby Championships in Canberra on September 30.

The Eagles, who are coached by Matt Thomas, take on the Sydney Rays in a trial on Wednesday. 

Wood (lock) and prop Allen starred for NSW Country against Sydney mid-season. At 17 Allen is the youngest player in the squad. Both players are involved in grand finals this weekend.

Once their club commitments are over they will travel to Sydney three times a week to to train. The Eagles have been drawn in the same pool as the Rebels, Force and Brisbane City at the championships, which doubles as a selection trial for the Australian under-19s.
