1859-1878 Belmore Bridge opens, St Mary’s Catholic Girls School opens

1879-1898 West Maitland Boys and Girls High Schools open, West Maitland Town Hall opens, severe floods in Maitland change river course, Les Darcy born

1899-1918 Maitland’s Steam Railway opens, Les Darcy becomes national heavyweight champion then dies

1919-1938 World’s first motorcycle speedway races held at Maitland, steam trams stop operation in Maitland
