Two males, aged 16 and 20, have been charged in relation to the alleged spree in Maitland’s western suburbs, with the older man to front court today on 11 charges.
Police claim it started Saturday afternoon when a Ford Ranger was stolen from Aberglasslyn, after the keys were taken from a nearby unlocked car.
Police will allege the Ford Ranger was driven dangerously around Rutherford and was seen doing burnouts on a reserve before colliding with a power pole.
The car was later found alight at Telarah during a total fire ban. The two males were arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene on foot.
Police also claim the males are linked to an incident at BWS Aberglasslyn the same afternoon.
A staff member spotted someone trying to go into a staff only section and told them they were not allowed.
The woman was then abused and a trolley was kicked in her direction, which luckily did not connect.
An off-duty cop noticed the commotion and tried to intervene, but the man allegedly ran away before turning and threatening the officer. The two men then left the scene by car.
The 20-year-old was charged with taking and driving a conveyance without consent, destroying property, common assault, two counts of intimidation, negligent driving, not giving particulars to the owner of damaged property, driving while unlicenced, dangerous driving, damaging a property by fire and larceny.
The 16-year-old was charged with larceny, being carried in a conveyance taken without consent and damaging a property by fire.
