I am becoming increasingly concerned about the political agenda, at state government level, supported by some elements of our elected councillors, to wage a corrosive and erosive campaign against our essential library services.

I would like to remind those individuals that council’s charter is far more than mere roads, rubbish and rates. Councils provide amenity, community hubs, places where all members of our community can meet, access services, literacy support and above all provide the lifeblood of our democracy.
Libraries are the cornerstone of democracy. They provide access to knowledge and learning. Campaigning to erode their services (because it’s all about roads, rates and above all rubbish) is, in essence, a war on our democracy.
Proponents of funding cuts to libraries, such as the state government which has continually cut recurrent funding (NSW is the lowest in pecking order of Australian states) and some local councillors who endorse this anti-democratic attitude deserve the ire of all of us who value our community, our sense of shared space, our children’s learning and, as said, our democracy.
Shame on them.

RAIL FUNDRAISERS
I am the Public relations Officer for the Rail Motor Society - Paterson of which we are all volunteers. We are a heritage Rail Museum and an accredited main line rail operator and we are running two fundraising rail journey's for the "Need for Feed" group to support our farmers.
I was hoping that you may be able to give us some support through the media to assist us in getting the word out for this very worthwhile cause.
On Saturday, September 15 our 621/721 Rail Motors will be going to the Hawkesbury River for a cruise and lunch, morning and afternoon tea will be served on the train - tickets are $115.
On Sunday, September 16 our CPH Rail Motors will be doing another run to Brisbane Waters for their history cruise on the Lady Kendall cruise boat with lunch included - tickets $115 per head.

COLES SUPPORT
Coles has established a new community fund to provide grants for sports equipment to Little Athletics centres with funds raised from selected Community Bags.
As of this week, Little Athletics centres can apply for grants of up to $5000 to replace or expand their sports equipment for the upcoming season.
Funds for the grants are raised through the sale of specially marked chiller bags designed by Aussie kids. For every bag sold, 25 cents will be directed to Little Athletics Australia for the Community Fund.
Coles Managing Director John Durkan said the Coles Little Athletics Community Fund was a new and unique way to help grassroots centres.
